Building a Painting with Alan Bray
Date: June 21 – June 24
Location: Monson Arts, 8 Greenville Rd., Monson, ME 04464
For beginner to intermediate painters with a basic knowledge of drawing and painting.
Tempera, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, or drawing.
This workshop will deal with the progression of making a painting from the initial impulse to the final execution of the work. We will examine the process of thinking, editing, refining, and developing a strategy and process for building a painting. This will include clarification of the intent of the work, preliminary studies (thumb nail sketches) and the final execution of the painting.
Alan Bray – Alan Bray’s landscapes are dreamlike worlds that we feel we know or have seen, and certainly we yearn for emotionally. He has been painting rural Maine for many years and you can feel his connection, but also his aloofness in his quiet observations of the natural world around him.

21 (Friday) 5:00 pm - 24 (Monday) 12:00 pm

Monson ArtsMonson Arts is a residency and workshop program in Monson, Maine. An initiative of Maine’s Libra Foundation, Monson Arts began programming in 2018. It was started as a way to spur economic development in Piscataquis County. Monson, the last town before the 100 Mile Wilderness on the Appalachian Trail, was the home of photographer Berenice Abbott, painter Carl Sprinchorn, and was a center for slate quarrying and furniture making. Monson Arts’ mission is to provide time and space for creative work. This is done through a combination of residencies, workshops, community/school programs and initiatives, and exhibitions. 8 Greenville Rd. Monson, Maine
