Fresh From The Farm

Natural Tie Dying:  Join us as we explore and gather berries, bark, and things from our natural environment to make natural dyes.  We will meet at the Smokehouse and travel around our farm and hiking trails learning about natural products used to create dyes. You will have the opportunity to make your own natural tie dye t-shirt to take home.

Dilly Beans:  Come learn how to make your own dilly beans.  We will meet at The Market and Welcome Center and travel on Trina the Trolley, to the education garden, where we will pick our ingredients to make the dilly beans.   Not only will you learn how to make dilly beans you will also get to bring home a freshly made jar of dilly beans to share with your family.

Salsa Making:  We will meet at the Market and Welcome Center and take Trina the Trolley down to the education garden to pick peppers and tomatoes to put into our very own salsa. We will learn how to make a simple garden salsa that is quick, fresh and yummy! Choose to make it sweet or spicy it’s up to you.

Honey Bees:  Come ready to explore the world of honey bees and the products we can make out of the bounty.  We will begin at The Market and Welcome Center next to the honey hive at the back of the store.  We will then take Trina the Trolley to our outdoor hives and look at the insides and see where a honey bee makes its delicious honey.  We will all have a chance to sample some honey.

Eggs to Quiche:  Join us in the kitchen to make quiche from Pineland Farms, farm fresh organic eggs.  We will meet at The Market and Welcome Center, where we will make our quiche then take Trina the Trolley down to the Valley Farm to visit our Organic Golden Comet chickens.  We will gather fresh eggs to bring back to The Market and Welcome Center to wash and put up for sale.

Apple Crisp:  We will make fresh cream out of our farm fresh milk to put on top of our hot apple crisp.  We will meet at The Market and Welcome Center and travel on Trina the Trolley to the apple orchard where we will pick apples to turn into fresh apple crisp, then travel to the Valley Farm to get some fresh milk.

Apple Cider:  Join us in the apple orchard where we will make fresh apple cider.  We will learn about the different types of apples and taste the difference between baking, juicing and eating apples.  We will meet at The Market and Welcome Center and travel on Trina the Trolley to the apple orchard where we will pick apples to turn into fresh apple cider.

Pumpkins:  It’s pumpkin time!  We will meet at The Market and Welcome Center and travel on Trina the Trolley down to our pumpkin patch where you will pick your very own pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern.  We will save the seeds to season and toast for a yummy treat.

Wreath Making and Decorating:  Every wonder how to make a wreath?  We will meet at the Smokehouse on the Valley Farm and travel into the woods and collect balsam boughs to make a wreath. Then come back to the Smokehouse to make our own wreaths.

Fall Family Programs

Fairy Houses:  Come explore Pineland’s woods, seek out your own perfect place to construct your very own magical fairy house.

Date: September 15, 2010

Ages: All ages

Time: 10 a.m.– 11:30p.m.

Cost: $5.00 per person

 

Learn to Orienteer:  Get ready to explore the trails of Pineland Farms.  We will learn about orienteering and how to use a map.  Then we will set out on the orienteering course collecting stamps with hopes of finishing the course.

Ages: 4 years old and up

Time: 10 a.m.– 11:30p.m.

Cost: $5.00 per person

 

That’s Some Pig:  Come meet Pineland's own pigs, Ernie and Bert.  We will learn about pigs, their habitat and the food they eat.  We will feed the pigs and talk about the life of a pig.

Cool Chickens:  Come learn about our feathered friends. We will take a look at what it means to be a bird by interacting with our flock of organic hens. We’ll head to the barn collect eggs and see why chickens are such amazing creatures.

Weaving:  Let’s explore the world of sheep and wool. We will meet at the Smokehouse and take Trina the Trolley to our Hilltop Farm where we will meet our sheep.

Meet the Warmbloods:  Join us at the Pineland Farms Equestrian Center to meet our Warmblood Horses. We will get a personal introduction to the horses as we discover what goes on at the Equestrian Center and why we breed these majestic animals.

Time: 10 a.m.– 11:30p.m.

Cost: $5.00 per person

Tracks, Scats and Animal Signs:  Come discover Pineland Farm’s wildlife. We will explore our field and forests in search of animals’ homes, tracks and look for signs of animal activity. We will learn what animals need to survive and ho to identify what animals call home through what they leave behind.

Snowshoeing Class for Winter Celebration:  Come learn to snowshoe or  join us for a hike on the trails. We will leave from the Outdoor center. Snowshoes are provided for the class.

Learn to Snowshoe:  Come learn to snowshoe and join us for a hike on the trails. We will leave from the Outdoor center. Snowshoes are provided for the class.

Turkey Time:  It's turkey time!  Come meet a local farmer's turkeys that are raised for Thanksgiving.  We will learn about turkeys and compare them to our other feathered friends.

From Moo to You:  Come meet our registered Holstein cows and learn about the products we get from them.  We will travel from the calf barn, to the heifer barn and end up in the dairy barn where we will have a chance to milk a cow.

A Wine Tasting at The Market

When: Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Learn to Make Pie!

Learn to Make Delicious Pumpkin Pie!
Celebrate the fall harvest and gear up for the holidays with your own freshly baked pies.
Learn the secret to making rich and creamy pumpkin pie with flaky crust from the master, Debbie Thurlow of Debbie's Pies.
The cost of the class is $45 which includes: lunch, pie-making class, a freshly baked pie to take home and Debbie's pumpkin pie recipe.

Ongoing Events

Explore Pineland Farms on your own from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Stop by The Market/Welcome Center to pick up a map and purchase a pass. Cost is $3.00 per person (free for children under age two).

Stroll around the Garden, filled with perennials, herbs and vegetables. 

Visit the Creamery: Self guided Creamery tours are available 7 days a week. Stop by the Market/Welcome Center to purchase your pass and for more information. Groups are asked to schedule tours in advance by calling 688-4539. Drawings for free cheese take place on or about the 15th of each month. Sign up here or at The Market/Welcome Center.

Horse Riding Lessons: Riding lessons are given year-round.

Participate in an Education Program: Thousands of acres of forests, fields, and farmyards serve as an inspiring hands-on classroom where you can explore your connection to natural history and agriculture.

Orienteering Meets and Workshops: Try something new this year—learn to orienteer!
