Harvester-Produce

Harvester:

The Pineland Farms Produce Division at Gillespie Farms in New Gloucester is looking for help harvesting our strawberry crop. The harvest season runs from mid-June through late-July.

This is a chance to work outside picking strawberries during the morning hours 7 days/week with daily schedule flexibility. Pickers need to harvest at a certain rate to earn a minimum hourly wage of $13.50/hr. Fast-paced workers can earn over $16/hr.  Strawberries will be done in July but opportunities exist to harvest subsequent crops such as cucumbers and pumpkins. 

Job Requirements:

  • Outdoor work environment
  • Must be able to pick strawberries; depending on your preferred method will require bending, kneeling, sitting, or squatting.
  • Weekend and Morning Availability Required
  • Must be over 16 years of age

Seasonal Office Assistant-Produce:

Seasonal Driver – Produce

Seasonal Driver:

The Produce Division is hiring seasonal delivery drivers. The season runs from early June through November.  Deliveries are primarily in the greater Portland area. Both full-time and part-time positions are available. Early days and weekends required at $13.50/hour starting wage.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to interact with customers.
  • Must be comfortable with driving box trucks and handling product.
  • Ability to lift 65 lbs.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Outdoor Recreation Department Positions

The Pineland Farms Outdoor Recreation Department is looking for a hard working self-motivated individuals. This is a full-time seasonal position.

Job duties will require experience in the following areas:

  • Assisting in event preparation and support
  • Trail maintenance and building
  • Building maintenance
  • Equipment operation and maintenance
  • Tree cutting and pruning
  • String trimming
  • Painting
  • Trail grooming

Salary: $13.50/hr

Job Requirements:

  • Must be physically fit and willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Must have current driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently, in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must work well with and be comfortable with the public.

Farmyard Educators

Job Description: Pineland Farms is seeking full-time and part-time seasonal employees for the Family Farmyard. 80% OF THIS JOB IS BEING AN EDUCATOR and 20% is a farmer. The Family Farmyard hosts a variety of animals from local farms that spend the summer here at Pineland Farms.  The goal of the Family Farmyard is to educate and connect visitors to agriculture in a safe, engaging, hands-on environment. Pineland Farms’ Family Farmyard sees thousands of visitors over the course of the summer.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead activities for the public and school groups including formal interactive presentations to groups ranging from a few people to as many as 100 or more.  Also engaging public in less formal “meet and greet a farm animal” type of activities.
  • Engage with public about many topics ranging from basic animal information (“what animal is this?”) to in-depth discussions (i.e. dairy industry or farming practices etc.)
  • Chores associated with the family farmyard animals, gardens and general farmyard maintenance
  • Provide information about Pineland Farms’ campus, history, products, and services.
  • Uphold excellent guest services at all times
  • Communicate effectively with staff and supervisors to create a respectful and open work environment.
  • Provide support for special events (on as needed basis)

 

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Full time (30-40 hours) and part time positions (20-29 hours) available
  • Weekend availability required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

 

Salary/Wage: Starting pay is $13.50

Term:  Seasonal *May through August

Reports To: Education Manager and Education Coordinators

Pineland Farms Ground Crew 2019

 Pineland Farms Ground Crew 2019

These are full-time seasonal positions starting mid-April (40 hours/week Mon.-Fri. 7-3:30).

Pineland Farms is looking for hardworking individuals interested in landscaping and horticulture to work on the grounds at the Pineland Farms Public Garden, Campus and other properties. Experience is preferred.

Job duties may include work in some or all of following areas:

  • Prepping beds, planting and caring for our vegetable, annual, cutting and display gardens.
  • Watering, propagation and transplanting in our annuals greenhouse.
  • Turf care and irrigation system upkeep.
  • Planting, edging and mulching of landscape beds.
  • Planting and transplanting trees and shrubs around the grounds and Christmas tree farm.
  • Working with cut flowers and making arrangements for weddings, guest houses and The Market.
  • Monitoring and turning of compost piles.
  • Pruning and care of our apple orchards, roses, shrubs and ornamental trees.
  • Installing hardscapes, new landscape beds and other garden features.
  • Keeping the grounds, gardens and various properties weed free, trash free and looking their best.
  • Interacting with the public, tour buses and children in our one-acre public garden.

Requirements

  • Must be physically fit and willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from knee to waist.
  • Must have current drivers license in good standing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently, in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must work well with the public.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Self-motivation and a good attitude are essential.
