Looking for some extra income this summer? Do you enjoy working with your hands and getting paid to be outside? With some great people? Pineland Farms Produce Division at Gillespie Farms in New Gloucester is looking for help starting with harvesting our strawberry crop this summer. The strawberry harvest runs from mid-June through late-July but opportunities exist to harvest subsequent crops such as cucumbers and pumpkins and process green beans into October.

This is a chance to work outside with a great team picking strawberries during the morning hours with weekly schedule flexibility. Pickers need to harvest at a certain rate to earn a minimum hourly wage of $15/hour- the main requirements are weekend availability and that you harvest crops efficiently and selectively.

Job Requirements

  • Weekend and morning availability required
  • Must be comfortable working outside
  • Must be able to pick strawberries; depending on your preferred method, requires bending, kneeling, sitting, or squatting.

Seasonal Produce Transporter

The Pineland Farms Produce Division at the Gillespie Farm in New Gloucester is looking for seasonal help with deliveries. If you’re over 18, have a clean driving record and can easily lift 50 pounds you’ve hit the biggest requirements. Deliveries are performed in the greater Portland area and generally on a box truck but the position does not require a CDL license.

As a driver you will work with the office staff to determine loading and delivery routes. You are responsible for vehicle inspections and proper reporting.  All drivers start with a window of training and shadowing with a senior driver. We all work as a team to ensure everyone is loaded efficiently in the mornings and trucks get back to the farm in a timely manner.

Job Requirements:

  • Over 18 years old
  • Safe Driving Record
  • Can lift 50 pounds
  • Weekend and morning availability
  • Comfortable loading and unloading produce as listed on a pack sheet
  • Good customer service skills

 Pineland Farms Grounds Crew

These are full-time seasonal positions starting mid-April (40 hours/week Mon.-Fri. 7-3:30).

Pineland Farms is looking for hardworking individuals interested in landscaping and horticulture to work on the grounds at the Pineland Farms Public Garden, Campus and other properties. Experience is preferred.

Job duties may include work in some or all of following areas:

  • Prepping beds, planting and caring for our vegetable, annual, cutting and display gardens.
  • Watering, propagation and transplanting in our annuals greenhouse.
  • Turf care and irrigation system upkeep.
  • Planting, edging and mulching of landscape beds.
  • Planting and transplanting trees and shrubs around the grounds and Christmas tree farm.
  • Working with cut flowers and making arrangements for weddings, guest houses and The Market.
  • Monitoring and turning of compost piles.
  • Pruning and care of our apple orchards, roses, shrubs and ornamental trees.
  • Installing hardscapes, new landscape beds and other garden features.
  • Keeping the grounds, gardens and various properties weed free, trash free and looking their best.
  • Interacting with the public, tour buses and children in our one-acre public garden.


  • Must be physically fit and willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from knee to waist.
  • Must have current drivers license in good standing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently, in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must work well with the public.

Outdoor Recreation Maintenance Worker

Pineland Farms Job Description – Outdoor Recreation Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Outdoor Operations Supervisor



  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently, in a team-oriented environment. Self-motivation and a good attitude are our top priority.
  • Comfortable with a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience with wood working power tools.
  • Experience working in a general grounds maintenance position.
  • Mechanical aptitude—ability to troubleshoot and fix mechanical problems on equipment for outdoor/landscaping use.
  • Familiarity with function planning and facility set-ups.
  • Very timely and attention to time-sensitive issues.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule (nights and weekends as required.)
  • Ability to lift/move heavy (up to 80 lbs) objects from the ground to chest height.
  • Good Sense of humor and strong work ethnic are a must.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.
  • Must be 18 Years of age or older.
  • CDL a plus but not required.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Trail work, grounds maintenance, chain sawing and mowing.
  • Ability to run trucks with trailer as well as tractor operation
  • All types of mechanical work to include welding, vehicle maintenance, and snow mobile maintenance.
  • Light carpentry and painting.
  • Assist with winter trail grooming (snowmobile/ four wheeler operation with evening or night shifts required). Shoveling, pond clearing, and other winter-related activities.
  • Assist with retail ski shop and hosting of events and races as needed.
  • Shop organization and cleaning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Outdoor Recreation Department Summer Positions

The Pineland Farms Outdoor Recreation Department is looking for a hard working self-motivated individuals. This is a full-time seasonal position.

Job duties will require experience in the following areas:

  • Assisting in event preparation and support
  • Trail maintenance and building
  • Building maintenance
  • Equipment operation and maintenance
  • Tree cutting and pruning
  • String trimming
  • Painting
  • Trail grooming

Salary: $15.00/hr
