A New Chapter for Outdoor Recreation at Pineland
A New Chapter for Outdoor Recreation at Pineland
For several years, the Outdoor & Fitness Center has been a space where the community came together to enjoy all that Maine’s seasons have to offer. Today, we’re announcing a shift in how that experience will continue at Pineland.
After careful evaluation, we’ve determined that the Outdoor & Fitness Center building has reached the end of its useful life. The infrastructure is no longer feasible to maintain. As a result, the building will close on June 1, and the property owner will be exploring future possibilities for the site, including potential partnerships to reimagine or rebuild the facility.
With the closure of this building, equipment rentals will no longer be available.
What’s Next? More of What You Love.
This marks the end of one facility, but public outdoor recreation will continue to be a core part of the Pineland experience. Our trails will remain open and well-maintained for year-round activities like hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. Passes will be available online and at our Market and Welcome Center.
Disc golf will remain an important part of recreation at Pineland, and we’re excited about the rapid growth in that sport. In addition to our three 18-hole courses, a fourth, family-friendly 9-hole course will be added on the Pineland Campus in the near future.
Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training (VAST)
Our VAST program will continue to meet at the Outdoor Center through June 30. Plans for a new meeting location are actively in the works and will be shared directly with participants through VAST’s weekly newsletter and Facebook page.
Upcoming Programs & Reservations
With the closure of the Outdoor Center, all programs, events, and activities held at the facility and scheduled after June 1 — including candlepin bowling, pickleball, and private reservations — will be canceled. Over the next month, our team will be reaching out directly to those with existing bookings or purchased tickets to issue refunds and provide additional information. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
To the Team Behind the Scenes
We recognize that this closure will affect some of our dedicated staff, and we are deeply grateful for their service and contributions over the years. Pineland is committed to being flexible and supportive as staff members explore new employment opportunities.
